I’ve been seeing homemade versions of cleansing wipes around for a while but never really bothered to make them because we usually just use a cloth and a spray bottle of vinegar. I’m not sure what tipped it for me, maybe being sick for weeks and having to clean everything top to bottom without the energy to then do laundry? In any case, I was intrigued enough to try it out.

First I tried a version to stick on my Swiffer because I got tired (and too forgetful) of buying the Swiffer wet floor pads. That version did not work out well as a means to clean the floor. They pretty much just shredded immediately. So I tried to use them as regular cleansing wipes and they work great! They didn’t shred immediately and worked well on a very messy toddler play table covered in dried play dough.Depending on the essential oils you use, you can really boost the disinfecting aspect of these wipes without a bunch of yucky chemicals.

Other than when I’m sick for weeks, I try to avoid needless waste so we bought some inexpensive shop cloths and just store them in a container with the same cleaning mix used for these paper towel versions. I have found that these shop cloths also fit perfectly on the Swiffer and I don’t go through 4-5 to spot clean one room. When you’re done cleaning you can just throw them in the washer.

  6. Remove cardboard insert from the middle of the paper towel roll.
